Goodyear Rubber Company of Southern California proudly uses natural rubber in various rubber products available. Natural rubber is exactly what it sounds like; straight from nature! Latex is extracted from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree which is the foundation of rubber.
Similar to sap from a maple tree, latex is harvested from these trees which is then used to create the rubber you find in many products.
After latex is collected from the tree, heat and chemicals are added to increase flexibility and duration of the rubber. This is the process of vulcanization that was developed by Charles Goodyear in the 1800’s.
Today, natural rubber can be used to make various types of products. From small items like rain boots all the way to large parts for machinery, natural rubber has made a strong impact on the manufacturing industry.
